I have seen some of our trucks with the 4.8l V8 engine and a stick shift, but not very many of them. As far as performance or durability, I have heard nothing.

I have had six Silverado's with 5 speeds and have jammed a lot of gears with no problems. I currently have a 90 model 350 RCSB 4x4 with 211K miles on it and a 01 model that came with a 4.8. After 99 they didn't offer anything larger than a 4.8 with the 5 speed in a 1/2 ton truck. The only transmission problems you read about on these forums is with the Automatic.

They do make after market clutches, and I think the Joe Gibbs truck 4.8 / 5 speed makes about 390 hp, You will just have to check around and see who has made more with the 5 speed.

Out of everyone I've talked to 6gear you are the only one I've heard of that didn't have probs with the tranny. Go to the trans department in the truck section and do a search on the nv3500.(That if I'm not mistaken is what comes in our trucks the t56 is the 6spd that 6gear swapped in). Yes I have the five speed with 53K and am limping it around til I can do a t56 swap.
P.S. they don't make any upgrades for this tranny from what I've found and been told doesn't that make it fun
