The manual 5 speeds behind the 4.8 are worse than the 4l60e.

that's odd sound's like people like to beat on there tran's or something. I got over a 110k on my 4.8 5spd and not a issue with it.

I think the people that havev issues with their 5speeds behind the 4800's is the face that they don't know how to drive a manual transmission in the first place. I would say 1/2 the people out there that drive a car or truck equipped with a manual transmission shouldn't own one much less be allowed to drive one... My 2 cents......

I'm on tranny number 3. I blew the first one up with the stock 4.8. Tranny number two didn't stand a chance once the procharger found it's home. Tranny number 3 has been ok so far other than not liking 100mph upshifts into 4th. I will be putting a "built" 700r4 in as soon as number 3 kicks the bucket.

Yes I have the five speed with 53K and am limping it around til I can do a t56 swap.
P.S. they don't make any upgrades for this tranny from what I've found and been told doesn't that make it fun
I guess anything can be tore up with abuse or by drag racing constantly, most of the racing I do is not from a dead stop although I do that occassionaly. I guess my point is there is a difference between abuse and driving hard. I have had a few automatics and never could get one to live anytime at all, I have had a whole lot better luck with the sticks.

Yes cause after all everyone that has issues with their 5spd doesn't know how to drive one. I've never even owned an automatic only sticks the need for assinine comments like that aren't what he was asking for Joe. Yes I would imagine if you were careful didn't race, take off quick, drive hard or tow to much the trans would hold just fine. But as for alot of the people on here that I've seen we end up breaking them. Hey 6gear some people get lucky and get a better tranny or just take better care of theirs my biggest problem was not being able to shift from 2nd to 3rd at wot

Hey I am also on number three currently with the chance of being on # 4 after I last night when my driveshaft snapped again on the freeway. Now I am looking at doing a T56 - 6 speed and am looking into what will make it work.

My question would be:

Are you going to have all the problems associated with clutches like the F-body guys do? Most of my friends are having to spring for $1000-$2000 clutches just to keep things together in high HP applications. I can't see a truck being any different.
