Default Making the L31 all that it could've been...

Looking to fully utilize the L31's performance that GM could have possibly done via OEM. It's just a street truck no need for max performance but would like to get all that i can out of the L31 intake without the marine manifold. Not saying I wont eventually go to the marine manifold later, just trying to utilize the stock engine max potential.
ZZ4?
GM845?
GM395(ramjet)
GM846?
Hot cam?

Thank all that take a look and give me serious feed back, I have other project for the LS swaps, so just give me what ya can on this.

updated mine with a 411 swap using the stock harness. Ran the stock injection with a comp cams 220 truck cam and the stock fuel injection was barely enough for that. there are several manifolds besides the marine available. holley 9901-107 and edelbrock 29135, both of which will require regular injectors and fuel rail. Went to the holley intake and 388 cubic inches and a 236/242 cam now in a 2 door 4WD Tahoe. Going to step up to the super victor now and see how that does. Obviously you would need a converter if you went that route, I am running an FTI triple disc lockup that stalls 4200ish behind my motor with 4.56 gears and 33 inch TKOs. Gets about 12 mpg on the highway running 80+ with this setup, and 8-9 mpg around town and rides like a Cadillac lol.

I would build a 383 personally. Blueprint Engines are pretty decent daily driver motor options as well. Max effort L31, you can do much better with a LS Swap in my opinion.

A 383 would definitely be best if you can get fuel to it. There used to be a place that upgraded the spider assembly and regulator. Years ago I had a 97 L31 truck and did flat top pistons, little head work and my 217/225 .485/.505, 112 lsa camshaft. Made a HUGE difference but I had trouble getting enough fuel to it at wot. Cruise mpg did not seem to change much.

sounds like it was a nice ride minus it running a little lean possibly, I'm not expecting to break any speed records but would like to play with other trucks on the streets while having practical usage of a truck for a truck.

For the basic build it's really just a zz4 cam, s10 stall, gm's injector upgrade, vmaxx manifold spacer, full exhaust and tune. simple but should be a pretty nice combo.

idk If it'd would have any chance in a street race against newer vehicle but it would definitely be a fun useful daily driving truck.

Imagining that'd maybe put me close to 300whp

For what it's worth I've also thought about Lloyd Elliot cams off of his page.

What year is the operating system for the truck? 98 and 99 black box computers can be tuned using hptuners. The other years limit your tuning options with a cam. They can all be repinned to a 411 computer using the stock harness, takes les than 2 hours and gives you much more tuning ability. The Comp cams extreme 4x4 line is good to go with a change to ls6 springs. The cam that I used with stock cubic inches and intake manifold was the 8-408 Comp cam

it's a 98, thought about the 0411 but was willing to see what I could get out of the black box first

Jet/Tuner Cat has a program that can tune the black box-as well as LS versions.
