Default ls6 springs wtf!

OK we all know about the famous ls6 valve springs. So I'm gonna install a xr265 cam in a 5.3 so I bought a set and they work great. This is my problem. Some websites claim they are good to .570 even some .580 lift. THATS TOTAL BULLSHIT! Ifirst I installed them on a pair of 863's then a set of 243's. Both application coil bind at .580. You need a minimum of .40 cushion from coil bind especially with a hydraulic lifter. So anyone the tries them on .540 or more is asking for failure. Not to mention 80psi on the seat is asking for valve float. I wanna see 120 on the seat.

We just put one on the spring checker and from 1.800" installed height at .570" lift there was still .035" left in the spring. You might check your installed height measurements. For any cams mild enough to run an LS6 spring, that's more than safe. We also saw 92# closed pressure and just over 300# open.

No, they aren't for crazy applications with aggressive lobes or boosted applications with aftermarket cams. For the right mild cams they are a great option though. The only time they would be a problem is when they are improperly spec'd for a cam or build too aggressive for their specs.

Depends on color of spring OP
The Zr1/ls6 are 585 which are blue
The ls6/ls3/ls2 are 570

As far as available kits from GM there are only blue springs now, which is what i checked. Yellow are long gone. LS9 and LS3 both come with the blue spring.

None are recommended to .585"

I believe it was sometime early in 2011 that GM started the transition to blue rather than yellow. Old stock of yellow carried on through the change for a while. Yellow may still pop up from time to time, but as far as I know they have all been manufactured blue for several years now. 2010 sounds recent, but you do have to consider that it's 5 years old already.

Rest assured, we have measured several times and no blue spring has ever been good to .585" when assuming a 1.800 installed height.
