LS6 cam in 4.8L?
I have an '03 silvy with the 4.8L in it. I've been wanting to do a cam swap to get a few more horsepower... nothing too wild, and wanting to keep it relatively cheap. Would the LS6 from the 'vette work for this... and is there much difference between the '02 and '04 LS6 cam? Also, if I am able to do the swap with the LS6 cam, do I need to replace the rods, or would the stock ones be fine?

that will move your power band up to around 3000rpm's till she starts pulling hard.i think it is 551 lift. not sure on the differences.yuour stock rods should be fine but you will have to put in some ls6 springs.i think you can get them for around a 100.00 on gmparts direct.

The '01 cam is better in the trucks. Part #12560950 and it's only $190. Duration and lift are 204/211 525/525 with 116 lsa. '02 cam is 204/218 551/541 with 117.5 lsa. With the '02 cam you'll have to get longer pushrods. With either you should at least get LS6 springs if not Comp, Manley, Crane or other performance springs. There's several other comparable cams to the '01 Z06 cam but at $400 or more they're more than twice the price. There's a ton of info out there if you search for it, kinda takes some time. I like the '01 cam.

My opinion is, the 4.8 doesn't have enough low-end to sacrifice with the LS6 cams without at least a 3000 stall. Save your money and get something like a 206/212. If you do go with the LS6 cam, you will like the power at around 4000 rpms and up. But the low-end will suck. Just being honest from experience in riding in a 4.8 with the LS6 cam. Good luck with whatever you do
