Default LS2 cam in 4.8L?

Looking at 12574519 Ls2 cam $125.00 shipped
12499224 LS6 springs set of 16 $ 75.92 shipped
ACDELCO Part # 2133826 cam sensor $ 34.27
DORMAN Part # 635515 LS2 cover includes seals $55.42
Shipping for cover and sensor $ 9.96

Total $ 300.57

Not bad for cam springs, and gaskets?

I think the cam specs out at 204/211 @ 0.050" 0.525"/0.252" lift on 116LSA base circle 1.552"

My stock 2007 LR4 cam 12560967 hopefully the same base circle?

According to GM my cam gear is the three bolt with 1x cam gear already, so that should make it as simple as relocating the wires to the front, and using a LS2 cover/sensor.

Stock push rods ok to use? According to rock auto they are 7.3180" long, the same as a Trailblazer SS (LS2 cam) and 06 GTO LS2 cam.

I'm excepting a little bit of a loss in the low range. and hoping to make lots of power above 3000rpm. I have a GTO T56, so no need for a 3000 rpm stall converter, but I might need a stage 2 clutch. (right now stock LS1 F-body LUK clutch)

Thanks for your help guys!

One last thing Will the GM Acdelco F-body water pump clear the LS2 cam sensor?

I don't like a lumpy sounding cam, so I'm hoping this is a middle of the road cam for me. I spend 70% of the time driving between 1200 and 3500 rpm. And maybe 20% of the time between 2000-6300 rpm, the rest mixed! I do like to hammer on it!

Is 6300 rpm good for a 4.8L? My tuner tells me the motor will handle 6500!

Not worth the hassle in my opinion. The LS2 cam is not that much different than what you have. Get a LS6 cam if you are set on a GM cam. Then you won't need the conversion parts.

i think that would be a great cam and it does have a lot more lift and duration than stock. also your stock spring are good for 520 lift so i wouldnt even change them. make sure you got the rite cam sensor.

The LS2 cam I was told is 204/211 @ 0.50" 0.525"/0.525" lift on 116LSA part number 12574519 and a base circle of 1.552"to use 7.4"push rods.

The 2001 early LS6 (the one that is more sought after for 4.8L/5.3?)
204/211 @ 0.50" 0.525"/0.525" lift on 116LSA part number 12574519 and a base circle of 1.5"?? to use 7.45"push rods.

So it's 100.00 for new push rods, or 100.00 for new front cover, wash either way!

Stock cam LR4 12560967 0.466 0.457 190 191 114 112/116

The LS2/LS6 (early cam) have a lot more lift, and a bit more duration.

All told under 300.00 including springs, were else will I find a deal on a cam like that?

MM, sh*t thought I needed a bit of an overage!

07 truck springs 12589774 1.8" install height 90# 1.3"@ 264# 0.52"max lift

LS6/LS2 blue springs 12625033 1.8" install height 90# 1.250" @ 295# max lift 0.570"

I already bought kit 12499224 which includes qty 16 of 12625033

I paid 40.00 plus paypal fee brand new for the set, but if I don't need them, I'd rather not change them, not going to be easy! And I know higher rate springs can be brittle when cold. I do rev till 6300 rpm, so maybe I should put them in?

Otherwise I'm sure I can flog them on here for 50.00? Its a good price for the blue springs

IF I change them I have a fitting and compressed air with regulator. I was going to use the rubber mallet and deep socket removal method, and Zip ties and vise install method, I'd love the trick or proform LS spring compressor, but they are expensive! Unless There is a member that will loan it to me? I pay shipping and deposit?

And what I need two 3/8"rods about 18"long? as my lifter holders? I don't want to do it via the Russian rullote method!

The LS2 cam and the early LS6 cam have spec’s very similar to the
5.3L High Output Camshaft Kit part number 88958775, which GM say’s adds 25hp for a listed $388.13.

Listed Spec’s:
Camshaft Duration @ 0.050”: 203° intake / 212° exhaust
Valve Lift (in): 0.525” intake / 0.526” exhaust
LSA 117.5°

While the 5.3L HO cam and the LS6 version would be easier to install having the reluctor ring for use in a Gen III, I would say for whatever minimal performance difference, the LS2 version sure comes at a better price.

I would definitely go with the springs you’ve already purchased for the upgraded camshaft.
