LS1 intake ??'s
#1
I was just given a stock '00 LS1 intake manifold, I know they flow less than the stock 6.0 truck manifold but how much less in relation to what the stock heads will flow ??, what I mean is....will I see a decrease in power swapping to the LS1 intake ??, and will that decrease only be in a place that I never use (over 6000rpm)??
it seems to me that the smaller LS1 runners would help with low-end torque production by increasing velocity at low-rpm, also, since I would like to port this manifold as much as possible I should think that I will not see much of a drop in flow compared to a stock truck manifold...is this right ??
I am looking to swap to the LS1 manifold both for asthetic reasons (it looks better) and I also want to gain clearance near the cowl area because I am working on a rather
cowl induction setup (whick may turn into a complete bust but I'm gonna try it anyway) but with the stock manifold it will not fit (stock manifold is too tall)

Several people have "heard" that the truck intake flows well. I think the truck intake doesn't flow that well. Sure, with stock displacement, stock internals, stock whatever, it is fine. But for perfomance, it can be much improved upon. I'd think a stock LS1 intake would flow better. Have you looked inside the truck intake? All air is run into a tube that forces the air upward, then out and down towards the head. That may make more torque as it creates a slight ramming effect on the airflow. But this design will definitely make outright performance suffer compared to the open plenum of the LS6.
Once you look inside the truck intake, you'll see why a throttle body spacer will not make one lick of difference.

so...now back to my original question, where in the RPM band will I see a loss??, if it is down low we can end this thread now, if is is above 6000rpm I will be installing a new intake manifold next week

oh, believe me Slow.....I already know all the stuff involved, I have been talking to a few people about it and already have most of the parts necessary. the '98 Vette fuel rail that has the fuel return line was the hardest to find and the f-body injectors were the easiest, I am also going to mod the alternator bracket (thank you Ryan23Silverado) so that I can re-route the serpetine belt under the the LS1 throttle body location and still keep all of the truck accessories.
I was only going to do this mod for asthetic purposes so as long as the power will remain the same I will be happy
