LS1 fan controllers??
#1
I am looking to install the LS1 fans on my 2001 5.3 and money is a big issue so I was wondering if anyone has used this kit from Permacool ??
http://permacool.com/Catalog/Cat_page19.html P# 18905 & 19002 ???
I dont want to mess with LS1-edit and the dcc controller is kind of expensive, also this kind of looks pretty easy to install too. If anyone has this settup how do you like it?? Also does this settup have variable speeds for the fans or do they run at 100% when they come on ???? THANKS!!!!!

Dont buy the permacool controller it is a piece of cr@p. I bought two of them & ended up throwing them away because the way the wires attach to the controller were to delicate & they kept breaking off. I ended up buying two derale controllers from summitracing and they were much better quality. I bought the one that has the probe that sticks into the radiator but if you want better control you might want to look at the on that has a probe that will be placed directly into the water.

So you had to buy a controller for each fan??? And what about the A/C????
BTW, thanks for the response!! I was starting to think I was being anoing with all of my questions and everyone was ignoring me or something..

I didn't wire them up the standard way. I have them wired with two gm relays plus the derale fan controller kinda like how stock ls1 fans are wired. The fans run in low speed (series) mode whenever the key is on & switch to high speed (parallel) mode whenever the temperature rises above 185 degrees or whenever the a/c clutch engages. You can use one two control both fans as long as the total ampage isn't above 30amps if it is you will have to use two or wire it up using another relay, it all depends how you want to wire it up. Also the derale controller has a/c wire to engage the fans when the a/c clutch engages. Here is a link to the installation instructions

Sorry about all the questions but I read somewhere on here that the fans suck a lot of juice and some people are using 130 amp alternators. I think most of the trucks come with 105 amp alternators but I think the fully loaded power everything trucks and suv's have 130's. I think I can get my hands on a stock one. Are you using a 130 amp???

I am using the stock 105amp alternator with a deep cycle optima yellow top battery and as soon as the alternator craps out I plan on replacing it with a 130amp one. Also since I am running the fans in low speed most of the time they are pulling very little amps, they only pull alot of juice when I have my a/c on and the fans are running in high speed mode. My voltmeter reads just about 15v normally but drops to 12v when the fans switch to high speed mode. Also you might want to look into a variable speed controller which would be a better way of controlling the fans.
