Default Ls1 Cam Into My 4.8

Can Someone Tell Me If A Ls1 Stock Cam Will Work Fine In My 4.8? Will The Stock Valve Train Work? Do I Need To Reprogam The Ecm? I Don't Race It But I Would Like A Little Bigger Cam. Thank Tim

a stock cam from a '01-02' fbody is worth a 15-20hp. It will work with the 4.8L valvesprings. It should run ok without a tune, but even with the stock 4.8 cam a tune would help.

good luck with the swap

I don't think an LS1 cam would make a big enough difference to be worth the time. If you can get your hands on an LS6 cam it might be worthwhile.

It would depend a lot on which LS1 cam you're talking about swapping in. You can find LS1 cams growing from trees they're so popular from take-outs, and his 4.8L is already out, going into the 80's Camaro he said so the swap itself would be very easy.

The 98-00 LS1 camshaft is actually a decent upgrade when considering a 5.7L cam is going into a 4.8L motor. The difference in displacement will make that LS1 cam feel a lot bigger in the 4.8L. The 98-00 cam is a 202/210, .496/.496 on a 116 LSA compared to the stock 4.8/5.3L cam 190/191, .466/.457 on a 114 LSA. I think the stock truck springs would be maxed out completely with that 98-00 cam though. The 4.8L would definitely pull hard all the way to a 6200-6300 red line while having daily driver manners throughout the entire rev range. I'd imagine idle would be silky smooth.

huh, i thought the 99-00 6.0 shared the 4.8/5.3 cam but the 01+ 6.0 got the same cam as the 01+ ls1. i've got one out of a 02 6.0 sitting in the shop that i'll check the part # on tomorrow

I show the LQ9 getting a 207/196 .479/.467 on a 116.
