I say that it definetly isn't worth it. The compression ratio can easily be overcame with a set of smaller CC heads. Besides that the only difference is the rods, which you'll have to beat on pretty hard on all motor to break them.

pre 05's the diff are the lq9's have stronger rods, different pistons, more comp. If it is 05 or later they are the same, went to the ls2 internals. If ya can pick up a lq4 for the rite price get it and put a diff set of heads to bump the comp up.. All the lsx can take one hell uv a beating and live...

For the money most joints want for the LQ9 no it isnt worth it. They pull it out of an Escalade or an SS and the engine automatically becomes a big pile of gold! You can get a .5 bump in the CR with a Q4 using thinner gaskets and a bit of a mill on the heads. Prolly gonna be a good bit cheaper. If your gonna get heads or headwork, just go for a Q4. Then you get back your .5 maybe a bit more depending on what you do.

just think anything you do to get CR with a Lq4 you can do with a Lq9. but dpending on the price you can get each for would determine what worth or not
