Default LQ9 build questions

Guys, I will be putting a LQ9 into my 03 Silverado. I dont plan many mods, but a few. Truck already has a cold air intake. I plan to use a set of headers with a true dual exhaust from Speed Eng. Not sure if 1 3/4 or 1 7/8 would be best. Please advise.

I plan on adding the famous "Truck Norris cam" from BTR. I plan on doing springs, pushrods, and lifters. This is all the mods I plan on doing.

Plan to run a nearly stock converter with a set of 3:42 gears that are orginal to the truck while installing a locker or posi unit.

Any advice will be appreciated.

Anyone want to advise on my build. I come from the old school world of SBC.

I have already done some research and searches and found some information, just looking for first hand experience.

Umm. I think that's all you need to do on the engine side.

Are you tearing down the engine? May be a good idea to do a freshen up, unless you know the mileage and history? Otherwise put a new rear main seal, front seal, oil pan gasket, and may valley cover gasket.

I thought about taking the heads off and replacing head gaskets and while Im there clean up the deck and tops of pistons from carbon.

I do know the mileage, its around 60,000 and its a clean motor out of a Esclade.

Ok, so new rear main seal, front seal, oil pan gasket and valley cover gaskets.

Dang. 60k miles?! 🤯

That's extremely LOW mileage. How did you find such a low mileage, highly sought-after engine? 🤔

Had the insider luck with a local pick and pull man.

You can replace some gaskets and seals if you want but, no reason to pull heads. I'd leave it alone with only 60 on it.

every 6.0 could use 1 7/8 headers. I think the 5.3 even makes more power with the larger primary. I wouldnt pull the heads on a 60k motor. I probably wouldnt even worry about the rear main but it would be a gamble. Don't let the OEM magic out...

Only reason to pull the heads is if you're in the mood to bump up static compression with 799 heads.

Have come to find out that they Truck Norris cam on a 107 lsa might be to much for a stock converter and some towing. REcommending that I stay with a Stage 2 or 1 cam.
