My experience is limited, I have seen pistons like those ^ on my Harley when I was running too much CR...a few times :-(

What is the fix?

Like I said the 2618 pistons don't break, they deform...


I'm with Ky, What was the piston to cylinder clearance set at?

depends on how deep, but the fix is not good, I think the cheapest of which would be a new block and one new piston....

Yeah sorry Chris. This is the worst you would expect to see with the cylinder wall damage.

I would check clearances. The more I look at the pictures IMO, considering a top notch builder, I think the dang plug electrode caused all this. Broke off. Powdered up a bit, few bigger pieces got down into the rings, screwed them up and they rolled over. A nice piston ring, electrode sand paper.

I have no idea what the clearances were...I'll have to check with Rex on that one. What would cause the tip of the spark plug to break off?
