Default looking for new drive train ??

i am looking for a new drive train for my 91 gmc reg cab short box, 350, auto, 4 wheel drive. what i want to do is ditch the 4 wheel drive, and update to maybe an lt1 or something that will work with my intake and fuel inj.also a different trans, 2 wheel drive .
i am wondering what year of lt1 i can go with and trans also? any help is great.or opinions.
thanks shawn

An LT1 will not work with your intake and TBI. How about vortech heads for your current engine and getting the TH700R4 rebuilt and put a straight axle on the front. Or, get a Carbeurated 350 and a TH350 for 500 bucks and your done. Seems like you want to do a lot to this truck, it must be rust free. I have never heard of converting from 4 to 2 wheel drive though. Not trying to discourage you, but it seems there may be easier paths to the same outcome.

Converting your TBI to an LT1 is not that bad but you will need a complete LT1 engine w/ harness, PCM, tranny.

Here's a couple of articles.

83 truck w/ LT1
This article has a couple of other conversion and a lot info about the LT1 and LT4

i was not sure about my intake on the lt1. the reason for staying with my intake is that i have a procharger on the motor now.and want to keep it on the next motor.the vortech heads would be ok .just need a 700 r4 out of a 2 wheel drive, and drive shaft.i think that i can pull th guts out of the front end.
yes it is rust free, it already has a air bag system on the truck, so i thought that i may as well make it a 2 wheel drive.i all ready have one 4 wheel drive dont need another. thanks shawn
