I agree. It sounds like some bunk gas. Alot of times when a gas station is running low, you get near the bottom of the tank where years worth of random sediment from the gas settles. You may have gotten more than your fair share due to the tanks being low and you getting bottom of the tank gas.
Did you have them check the fuel filter??

I say drain it and refil.

Go get 5 gallons of gas, and a couple more 5 gallon cans. Take the filter off of your truck and direct the lines into a 5 galln can. Turn the key to the on postition for 3 seconds, turn back one click and back to on for 3 seconds. Repeat until it's empty.

If you feel real ambitious .. drop the tank and turn it upside down. That would let you clean the sock filter too which is prolly stoipped up if it's what green said. It may just be some water in the gas though.

The black sooty could be the stuff that's on the frame if they let it roll off the frame into a drip can.

i have a new filter for the truck, me and my dad plan on doing what you said flyer, and the black sooty stuff is what i watched them pump out of the line and also what they poured out of the filter. i will for sure be getting a complete fuel system cleaning after this. and the gas station told me that if no one else complained then i was just up "that" creek without a paddle. so im out $16 worth of gas and part of my saturday. im slightly ticked off right now. i'll have to see if my dad feels like tackling that sock filter with me. why do it if it aint gonna be done right. thanks

That tank would be easier to drop empty. Just have you some gas on hand to rinse it out.
