I think i'm having problems with my Powertrax differential. when going into a turn it stays locked up too much, and if i hit a bump or something the rear jumps from side to side, i like the way it locks on launch but don't like the handling of it. Does anyone have this problem and is the eaton or other companies better.

Couple questions for you:
What tranny do you have? Manual or A4?
Is that the lockright or gearless locker you got?
What kind of mileage did you have on that rearend?
I've run lockrights in the front and rear of both of my Jeeps without much problem. They do bang and clunk around, and if you enter a turn while appling the throttle, it will lock up. However, when you let off the gas it should unlock so if it's dragging or spinning without power, your thrust washers may either be worn out or missing.
With an eaton, you would have to reshim the carrier and maybe the pinion too, so you might as well regear it while you're at it. Personally, when I regear my rear to 4.10's I'll be dropping the g-80 for a detroit locker.

its an a4, not sure, and i don't have but 23000 on the truck and i imagine the powertrax has been in there for maybe 13000. What kind of mileage would i get with 3.73s or 4.10s. how much would it cost to get gears a posi put in?

Get the Eaton. You will be happy with it and at the same time put in the gears. I put in an Eaton and went from 3.42's to 3.73's, and am very happy with the set-up. The Eaton is $439 from both Summit and Jegs. I bought my gears off E-bay for $75, new they are $175ish. I know the increase from 3.42 to 3.73 is only about 10% but it was noticable. The Eaton is a very street friendly posi unit. It does not clunk or bang at all and you don't even really know it's there untill you want to paint black rubber strips!

I also drive about 50 miles a day on average. I get about 17 or 18 mpg. Of course I floor it every chance I get so it could be a little better. The Eaton was $320 shipped. I don't remember who sold it to me though. It was some guy I emailed. He sent the wrong bearings though, so I was pissed. The gears were like 160 or so from Tom's Differentials. I got some old guy around here to install them. He charged $250 but it took him 3 days.
Was worth every penny though.
