yes its ok. you just wont get the peak performance out of it.

you have the 6.2? if you do go with the 1-7/8 with cats.

what are your goals?

you'll need the cam phaser kit if you're planning on keeping VVT . . .

there are far more cams to choose from if you get rid of it vs keeping it. There's no cam reluctor in the rear

Why would you ever think of getting rid of VVT? Its a hotrodders dream!!!!

Comp Cams has a cam for your engine that made a 70hp gain without any torque losses. It was on a stock(with headers) 6.2L L92 with cam, springs, and phaser limiter kit. You can not do that without VVT!!

what's the specs or part numbers for the 2 cams that were tested ?

edit:COMP Cams XFI™ SPR Camshaft, 275PHR14

Here are two of COMP's VVT cams:
p/n 156-402-13 has an operating range of 1800-6900 rpm, 218/232-degrees of duration at .050, .563/.575-inch lift and a 114LSA. Comp says it has a noticeable idle, and is extremely strong in the upper rpm.

Meanwhile p/n 156-403-13 is designed for all-out power in a stock cube application with CNC-ported or aftermarket heads with 222/236-degrees of duration, .566/.578-inch lift and 114LSA. If these splits seem drastic, that is just the nature of L92 or LS3 heads and actually has nothing to do with the VVT.
