Default Knock Retard question

Say you are seeing 15* ignition advance...When it says you are getting 7 (somethings) of KR does that mean that without the KR your total advance would be 22*? or is the KR reading on autotap meaning something else?

Also, I heard that with every 2 KR seen you are losing 10 horsepower...is that fairly accurate?

here is how i understand it. if it shows 15deg of timing that is what it is asking for, then you have to take the KR away from that. so in your example you are only geting 8deg of timing.

something else about KR, if you computer would normaly ask for 25deg of timing but it has learned it is going to get kr at that level it will stop asking for 25deg, it might only ask for 15deg of timing now and then it will use the active kr that you can see on atap to pull even more timing. my point is if you can get rid of KR not only will you get those 7deg back but you will probably get more.

Is there a site, or someone I could order some resistors from, that has detailed instructions? I'm kinda slow when it comes to electronics... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" />

I'm not sure if there is a true 1 to 1 relationship with degrees of KR and degrees of timing reduced. Sometimes I will see 1 or 2 *s of KR and my timing will not be changed. Other times, when I see 3+ *s of KR, it will be drastically changed.

I'm sure you can get the resistors at any Radio Shack.

hey big tex, i dont think you understand what i am saying, the timing that you see atap showing is exactly what the computer is asking for then so many deg of KR are pulled from that. they dont show you the actual timing, you have to figure it out. not sure where i got this idea.

then when the kr gets higher it actualy starts to pull regular timing out with knock learn.

this is how it seems to work on my truck, like you are saying when it just pulls a couple of deg the timing holds steady(no knock learn). this is kind of a confusing subject, might have to look into it a little harder.

gees I must be pulling a whole tone of timing with the knock sensors thinking there is detonation. Thanks parish8
