Default K&N Drop-in filter

I know this topic has been beat to death...

I've read several posts about some people saying CAI's arent worth the money, and you should just invest in a k&n drop-in filter. Is there a big difference between the drop-in and a CAI? I think 50 bucks to 200+ bucks is a big jump. Any dynos?
