so i know there're eleventy-billion muffler threads out there, but none i've found really help me that much.
i've got a 5.3 that i'm fixing to throw some fleaBay headers on & i'm wanting to probably swap my chambered muffler for a straight-through. that said, i just added tail pipes back in march in preparation for the LTs because having it dumped was gonna be a bit too obnoxious. now it's too quiet & i don't really know how much sound the LTs will add, but i want it to be about as loud as before while still keeping a bit of growl to it. i understand that straight-through mufflers are more mellow than chambered ones, but the performance is a decent trade-off i can handle.
so what kind of SI/DO straight through mufflers are any count & not gonna break the bank? i've found the Magnaflow 12288 but haven't been able to get any good sound clips.
i've got a 3" mid pipe & dual 2.25" tails (although i can get 2.5" outlets to work - that's what i'm running now)
here's a vid clip from this spring to show what i'm running now:

thanks for y'all's input

thanks, but that sounds a bit too far from what i would be doing to be an accurate comparison.
i'm leaving the tail pipes where they are (out the back), and will most likely run a single muffler that either has a dual out (preferred) or a small reverse Y to the tails
my other option would be to not use the Y piece after the fake cats/resonators & just run true duals to either an internal X muffler or run two SI/SO mufflers with a crossover before them. (i'd rather not spend that much more money, though - i got a vette exhaust & blower to save up for)

right now, i'm thinking i might go with a Dynomax 17228. it's a 14" straight-through oval muffler with 3" in / dual 2.5" out

I just put those headers on my truck and really cannot tell that it is any louder. I was running without cats already and the only difference I can tell is now the rasp that I had before is now gone. The rest of the exhaust is a gibson catback and I really like the way it sounds. My wife hasn't complained about it being loud and she is very sensitive about that type of thing. She complained about the rasp before, but now no complaints.

hmm... conflicting opinions. that's never happened before!
well, i'll say mine is a bit louder than the Gibson we had on the 94 'burb (if that's any legitimate comparison). sounds like i'll find out what i want once i get time to install & tune these

FWIW, the "sound" of my Dynomax is exactly like the Flowmaster before it was. I've tried running just the Dynomax, and just the AeroChamber...both were way too raspy and sounded horrible by themselves, on my truck. Both together is perfect IMHO.
