Just got word back on my blown "built" Trans...

exactly, you are dead on with that one.

I understand there are 2 different 5 pinion sets availible.First the GM is the top quality and then the cheapo Japan made aftermarkets that are sloppy and inferior metal is used.Zippy what you said was confusing.A factory 4L65E will come with 5 pinions

What kind of 60' times does your truck pull?

So I figured, why go back until I can get the new trans/stall in there. It should be a good low-mid 13 second truck around the 104 mark when I get out there next time.
I do know it's the 5-gear and it is for sure the GM part and not the Jap part. But I don't know what "grade" it is. In fact, I haven't heard anyone say you can get different grades.
Black Blown - I'm hoping it was just a "bad part" too. The builder of the Trans told the Tuner that I'm putting too much power down for that part if I'm sitting on the brakes building boost. Mike is an excellent Tuner so I'm sure he can get it where it needs to be. But I was planning on pushing as much power as possible right there at a dead stop for an insane all-wheel launch!

if the tranny guy is telling you to pull power for his unit to live that is BS. chuck from FLP never told me to take it easy or hold back in any way. he was always all about hiting it as hard as i could and he would fix whatever broke.
i pulled hundreds of 1.6's with my old truck. many 8psi with 75shot launches.
i vote for a bum part but i would worry about your tranny builder not backing you up if you break it again.

Jim's right -- you shouldn't have to gimp your tune. Chuck knows what I'm trying to do and what Jim's doing, and he's all for it.
I'd make sure of a couple of things: 1) your tranny temps are under control (I look at my tranny gauge more than the road these days -- might explain that constant beeping noise I hear from the other drivers??) 2) you are really getting the top quality parts -- maybe call Chuck or Zippy on the phone and talk to 'em about which parts I which.
Also, AWD is hell on trannys - no give at the tires, so all the give ends up in the tranny. As long as those guys keep rebuilding you for free for your year, it's all good, but if they start in on the tune... Something's not right, IMO.

The 65E is built from the factory with 5 pinion planets, you shouldnt have had to pay for them again you already had them.I think there are the GMs and the cheap ones availible. Anyone have a website offering a 3rd option i would like to see it.

Gonzo - yes, I know about the 5-gear and I didn't pay extra for it. It's part of any buildup for a built 4L65 and part of the stock trans.
