Just got my truck back! (built tranny/Vig 3200)
#1
I just got my truck back from Andy's Auto Performance , who is now a sponsor on this board, and it is sweet. Got a full trans rebuild and installed my PI Vig 3200. I need to break it in for a couple hundred miles, but I can say that this thing will be a beast at full throttle. Drivabillity with the Vig is very good, I was used to it from the drive home. It is really not too loose at all. When I was on the freeway coming home in OD @ 60mph, I gave it about 1/3 throttle and the PRM's jumped to about 3600 RPM, and was pulling pretty hard for the amount of throttle I had on it. I will let everyone know how it feels and get some video clips once it is fully broken in. I am going to wait to hit the track until I get my Eaton installed, maybe in a couple of weeks. Hopefully that will keep my rear end in-tact on some hard launches with the ET Streets.
This rebuild will aso be in a truck magazine as a "How To" article, so I will let everyone know when it comes out.

Anyone that claims to be a tranny builder and tells you it has to be broke-in, isnt a tranny builder.A good trans should be WOT as soon as it leaves the shop.my $.02

Engines do, differential gears do, even suspensions do. What makes an automatic transmission not need a break in procedure?

I've never held too much faith in "break it in like you're going to drive it" theories.
Follow the manufacturers' guidelines and break it in properly!

I gotta go with Gonzo on this one. My brother-n-law is a 20+yr gm tech and is a trans specialist. He says no break in on trannys and you can drive it like you stole it right off the lot. But if it makes you feel good, then its good.

Congrats on the trany and converter Kent...can't wait to hear you impressions on how it feels when you get to stomp on it.
My gears, eaton and converter are on the way....I hope to have it all in by the end of Febuary.

Used the wrong word in my previous post.

I just got back from work and I was able to get on it a couple of times. I did a couple 40 to 90 mph runs and pulls HARD. Before with the Whipple, if felt like it would fall on it's face after the 2-3 shift, but not anymore, just keeps on pulling. Didn't get a chance to do any full throttle starts though, might try some tonight. I have a good felling that it will be a smoke show with my 255/50/17 street tires, maybe I will get it on video. The converter is definatly worth it, plus having a built trans is so much better than stock, no more sloppy/slow shifts.
