Default Intake question?

I've got a friend of mine that bought an AirRaid intake off of Ebay. He bought a chip off of there too, I have never heard anything about. I tried to talk him out of it, but basically from what I read its a chip that goes inside or in the electronics of the MAF sensor that is supposed to fool the MAF into thinking that it is running cooler than it really is. Sounds like a gimmick to me, it was only like 5 bucks, but I foresee troubles for him if he installs it. Anybody have any knowledge on this. I'll try and find a link for it if I can.

the air intake should be fine

the "chip" i can almost gurantee is a little reister that goes in the connector for the air intake temp side of the MAF to trick it so it will see roughly 50* intake air temp. it will make it run a little richer shouldnt set a light but not really going to affect anything . people have been doing this for a while sad part is the reisitor is .59 for a pack of 5 at radio shack

Yeah, the intake should be fine. Thats not the worry.

I read the link he sent me about the chip and yeah, I think it actually said that it would trick the MAF to believe that its seeing 37 degree temps. I just know that messing with the MAF sometimes causes other problems. Definitely should make it run richer.

Default It Will Use Loose MPG...

... on a grand scale and not really run better at all. Some tuners lean out a motor to get better performance and teeter on the edge of burning a piston. Cold air is dense in comparison to hot and this is what effects the performance. So the resistor will make her see cooler temps but physically it will not be there to do the trick.
