Default Intake and exhaust valves

I'm "TRYING" to adjust the rockers on my 1985 pickup. Which is the intake valve and which the exhaust valve?

You should be able to tell by the exhaust manifold...the exhaust valve is gonna be the closest to the exhaust outlet.

Thanks for the reply. I'm going to try this again in a few hours. I obviously was tightening the wrong ones at the wrong time. I'm using a Hayness manual, which is very helpful, but just didn't let me know which valve was which.
Wish me luck

Well just by looking at it, it's not that obvious. Can someone tell me if it's always on the right or left? Or if its always toward the front or the rear of the vehicle?
