Default I think my truck is using oil?

About 6,000 miles ago my check oil level signal appeared on my dash. I checked the oil and it was about a half quart low. The oil change had about 2,500 miles on it. I changed the oil a few hundred miles later and everything looked great. Oil looked clean, no leaky gaskets anywhere, no drops of oil on the garage floor etc. Now with about 2,500 miles on the next oil change the signal appeared again but when I checked the oil it wasn't low but it seemed like it wasn't far. Also the signal only appeared yesterday leaving for lunch from work. Hasn't came on since. The motor runs fine though. Fires right up, doesn't smoke, tap, skip or show any hesitation at any rpm range. Just seems to be using about a half quart of oil every 3,000 miles or so. Motor currently has 31,600 on it and has had mobil synthetic since the week I brought it home, and I've changed the oil every 3,000 to 4,000 miles.Any idea's or solutions?

That's within GM spec - I think all the way up to 1 quart per 1000 miles in within spec. Probably sucking some through the PCV system. 1/2 quart every 3k miles is not enough to worry about. If it bothers you though, you might consider running a catch can on the PCV line to see if that's where it's going. If that's the source, you can convert your PCV system to an LS6-style PCV setup.

Sounds Like A Possible Bad Oil Level Indicator.... Thats What I'd Bet On.... It Happens...

Change the PCV Valve to the new orifaced valve...GM Part # is 12572717. I see this alot here at my shop. Just from the sounds of things...this should fix you up.
