Ive decieded to install a turbo on my 5.3 and would like some inputs. Its a water cooled turbo so it will run pretty cool. It runs off engine oil. The price for a new Duramax intercooler is $453 and an adjustable waistgate is $225. Im planning on flipping my headers and running a Y-pipe under the hood and a single 3" exhaust after that with a cutout. To help with any turbo lag that it might have Ill probibly run a 75 shot.
The whole reason for the the turbo is I already have the turbo and all the stuff to install it will cost less than $1000 installed. About the same gaines as a good S/C at 20%the cost.

Sounds like a plan. I'd be curious to see your progress once you get started. Where do you live in J-ville, I could probably give you a hand if wanted. I finally found a 6.0 and it is sitting in my garage right now awaiting install with headers & stall. Are you very mechanically incline? Just cool to know about members who have skills that live close by if need be.

What are you going to do about fuel management, injectors, blow off valve, etc... There is alot to consider when putting together a turbo setup. Just the fabrication alone can be a significant hurdle to overcome. Once you have the turbo mounted, and all the plumbing done, you will most definately have to address the fuel system. Just FYI.

BlownZ71, Ive been working on cars and engines since I was a kid. I like to think Im mechanically inclined. I live in Orange Park behind Shades Night Club. The turbo install is fairly strait forward. The air fuel will be pretty easy to deal with. I will upgrade the fuel pump and injectors because I want to spray the intercooler. As far as increasing rail pressure when boost increases, no prob.
