How much should i pay for a cam and torque converter?
I drive a 2000 Silverado z71 with the 5.3. The performance shop I use quoted me $2500 to install a better cam, torque converter, valve seals, and a rear main seal. The cam and torque converter are for performance, but the rear main seal and valve seals are needed because mine have went out. He said it would be $2500 for everything, parts and labor. This includes the price of a tune. I have no idea how much this stuff normally costs so do yall think its a good deal? My truck has 270,000 miles.

I do my own labor but that is probably a low-fair amount depending on what torque convertor you go with if that includes parts and labor. The convertor alone can cost $800-$1300.

Cam/springs/pushrods--$700 or so
Torque converter $200 (Trailblazer I6)-$600 (Circle D)
Tune $450
It's not a bad price for labor. Only concern is how long that motor and trans are gonna last after you go through all this work. Might want to consider getting a lower mileage motor, doing everything yourself on an engine stand, and then just paying for a motor swap.
Also, the trans. At least get a Sonnax 1-2 and 3-4 servo kit. But this is another question of how long that 270,000 mile 4L60E is gonna last behind another 70hp.

Well everything on it runs perfect. No smoke or anything. Blackstone labs says everything looks great based on oil analysis. I feel like she can take more power. If the engine does go out at some point I’ll just get it rebuilt. It’s got just about every bolt on you can put on a 5.3 so far. I just need more power so cam it is!

That sounds fair. I would look into do lifters too. At 296,xxx mine werent bad but i wouldnt have used a new cam with those lifters. I think i paid right arounf 2500 in parts for mine, thats cam kit, springs pushrods, ported and polished heads, cam bearings all new gaskets. i do all my own work and get free fluids through my work too.
