how to make truck run 13s?????
#22
i am with gonzo, 6.0 for $1300, asm headers and cut outs. barely over 2k and i bet that would get you a 13.x. best part is now you have a killer base for any more mods you can afford later.

6.0 will bolt right in, it is externaly identical to the 4.8/5.3. not sure about emisions but i think it will have less of an effect than a cam swap. lots of stuff that would be nice to do while you had the motor out but if your limited to 2k then forget about it. i got my heavy truck into the 11's with a STOCK 6.0 so you dont really need to beef it up right away.
best place to get a motor is right here, they come up for sale every few weeks. if you go 6.0 you must get a 2001 or newer, it will have aluminum heads on it, if you are not 100%sure of the year get a pic of the crank flange and post it and we will tell you if it is the right year.
i really think for your stated budget a 6.0 is your only hope unless you are willing to spray it.

One more vote on a 6.0 swap, but I'd leave off the headers for now and get a converter. That would definitely put you in the mid 13s. It is no extra work to install a converter during the motor swap. Otherwise, you'll have to pull the tranny later to install it.
