What shift points is everybody using w/ an aftermarket cam? Doesn't valve float start at or around 6000rpm? Since I put the cam in when I shift at the stock shift points (5200) it pulls real hard like it really wants to go past it.

what springs do you have in it? That will determine how high you can go. I wouldn't go over 5700-5800 w/ stock springs. but by the can size I would assume you have done the springs if so 6000 would be safe.

With my old LS6 cam and springs, I would shift in the 6100 range.

Not that I know of. It ran pretty strong for a long time. I will say that after 18 months, the upper rpms didn't have quite the same pull that it had early on. I'd think the 01 LS6 springs were starting to show their age a little and I was getting some valve float. But thats just a guess.

Should I be o.k. considering the 2002 LS6 springs can handle .550+ lift?

remember the 2002 ls-6 heads for which those springs were designed, has lighter valve gear components and @6100 RPM a couple of grams makes a big difference.
