I have an 03 ECSB Z71 w\3.73:1 locking diff. I am getting a Nelson tune with 50% Torque Management removed. I presume when I gas it off the line I'll get some spin. How does the locker work and what can it take or not take?
I presume the locker is not like the old limited slipper?

Here is a place to find out some basic info about the Eaton Mechanical Locking Differential http://www.traction.eaton.com/prod2.htm .
I find I get about 10 feet (never really measured it) of both wheels spinning when I do a full throttle launch then it hooks up and goes. I guess you should never do a really hard launch when turning or you may break the shell.

Also, what has me concerned is how it does on wet pavment when I get spin and let off it really slams. I guess it is in the process of locking in and the reverse lash from letting off is not good.
I'll check out the link, Thanks.

you have a g80. it will handle most mods you do. mine let go not to long after the trsnny was built .for the most part a g80 will work but is not even comparible to the eaton.

" The Eaton Locker is option code G80 Locking Differential on GM light trucks and SUV's. Go to Chevrolet, GMC, Cadillac or Oldsmobile websites for more information."
Check out the link in my previous post.
Thanks
therock - probably not a good idea to get on and off it suddenly in the wet as the diff will be under considerable stress as it locks and unlocks due to the wheelspin. I know my truck spins them up pretty good in the wet and the natural tendency is to let off and get on it again trying to get the tires to hook up but this must be hard on the diff. The cluches in the diff can only do so much to ease the the diff into lockup.
The diff should begin to lock up when there is as little as 100 rpm difference from one wheel to the other. The diff will not lock up at speeds in excess of 20 MPH. When traction is achieved the diff returns to operation as an open diff.
