It's my opinion that 1 5/8 headers would be best suited for a mostly stock 5.3, although 1 5/8 primary headers are tough to come by, and if you plan future mods you'll probably want to upgrade to 1 3/4 headers anyway. Most of us are running 1 3/4 headers with our set ups and doing fine. I have 1 3/4 StainlessWorks on my extremely mild 5.3, and it really seems to help above 3500 rpms. I didn't lose anything down low, just didn't gain anything either.
I put my stock exhaust back on and I lost down low, for sure. I was pretty surprised.

Lost low end when you put your stock exhaust back on or lost it when you put the 1 3/4" headers on?

lost low end with the stock stuff. Stock 4.8/5.3 exhaust doesn't work well on a modded 6.0 lol.
