I was planning on going with lpp's but I came accross these with 1 5/8" primaries so i thought they'd be better. I can also get them for cheaper locally. Ah well guess lpp's it is for me. Just a little worried about the 1 3/4" primaries and 3" collector on my stock 5.3L.

1 5/8" primaries is really best for stock to mildly modified 4.8s and 5.3s, but there seems to be a lack of headers in those sizes. Hooker and Thorley are about the only ones I can think of off the top of my head.

FWIW, the Hooker Super Comps on my old '66 truck that we rebuilt are holding up just fine. Dunno why the difference in quality between those and ones folks have put on their new trucks, but those headers are about 5 years old if that makes any difference. They may have changed their manufacturing process in the mean time.

LPP is the name of the company that makes stainless headers, there has been alot of buzz here about them lately, considering that their stainless headers are about $500, as opposed to the stainless headers by other companies that are about $900 (for headers only with out y-pipe, most set ups run around $1400 complete with catted y-pipes)

what would be your suggestion on a 5.3 stock w/free mods and a mild tune as far as which headers to go with and what size. I'm looking to increase fuel economy and hp.
truck is a dd and tows the race car, used as the race car once in a while.

Here ya go:

www lpparts.com

*EDIT* after checking their site, it seems that LPP stands for LaMonte Performance Parts

It's my opinion that 1 5/8 headers would be best suited for a mostly stock 5.3, although 1 5/8 primary headers are tough to come by, and if you plan future mods you'll probably want to upgrade to 1 3/4 headers anyway. Most of us are running 1 3/4 headers with our set ups and doing fine. I have 1 3/4 StainlessWorks on my extremely mild 5.3, and it really seems to help above 3500 rpms. I didn't lose anything down low, just didn't gain anything either.

I run Hooker lt's that are coated and have had no problems. In fact mine seem to be of the best quality out there.
