Default Higher Mileage Engines

Whats up guys,

Ive got an 03 rcsb silverado with the 5.3l all done up, shaved, dropped, wheels, ect. It has 67k and it and I want to retire its daily driver status and pick up a 2000 or newer ext cab 4x4 to take on my daily driving needs.

Im selling my typhoon to pay for this new truck and I would like to bank a little from the sale so ive got about 7k max to spend. Ive been looking at trucks that have about 100k to 120k on them.

My commute is 10 miles round trip every day so I don't have a long commute by any means. Is there anything I should be concerned with when buying something this many miles? I understand it naturally need to have been serviced regularly and such but anything huge that craps out around this mileage?

Thanks in advance

Be glad to know that 100k miles on these motors are nothing, seriously. 100k miles on the new 5.3L is like 25k miles on your 4.3L V6 in the Typhoon, these new motors can chug forever. I have countless friends at school with higher mileage 1/2 ton Chevy's all 99 and newer. One even has 410k miles last time I heard which was last semester, all he does is change the oil&filter at 5k miles and air filter when it's dirty. He's been through 3 sets of tires that I alone have sold him. To say the least, he does more driving per year than I care to do in 5.

100k miles for a used truck is nothing to be worried about. If you absolutely must change anything just for the sake of wrenching, change the differential lube w/gasket, replace the radiator and t-stat and professionally flush the transmission when you do change all the fluids for the first time. That way you know all fluids are good to go.

No becouse if you source around you can get a low mileage 4.8 or 5.3 for less then 1500, and a Trans for about 750.

And age hurts vehicle suspension parts more then normal use.

Go for it, as stated they roll along time, hell people start to mod them with 65+ on the ticker. The norm should be checked. Fluids, brakes rotors, susp things along the line..

jaegmc99 has a 99 RCSB 5.3 with 170k miles and he has a built 80e, 3700 stall, and full bolt-ons and has been spraying 150 shot through his for almost a year now. Motor is still runnin stong with 12.90s in the 1/4.(before stall and 80e).

like stated above...dont worry about the mileage but do take your time checking over the truck...I bought my with 110k about 3 years about and I got 160k on it now...knock on wood no problems but little things like FPR(which goes on just about any NBS). Like InchUp said, change fluids and what not and you'll have the piece of mind that everything is good.

I started modding mine at about 108k. have had to replace the tranny and my front suspension is starting to squeak. probably just needs some lube since i've driven it through a few flooded roads a couple times.
