i think its the fact that we arent sugar-coating the fact that it would be hard to do.

going 12s in a truck is MUCH harder than going 12s in a f-body

12's are still fast for an F-body too. Yeah, i find that most people don't realize how fast 12's are and how much work it takes to get there.

Is your "buddy" who builds transmission used to doing high performance 4L60Es? I have talked to so many people who had "friends" or guys they knew who did transmission work. 3 to 6 months later they were asking me for the name of the transmission shop I recommended.

FLT is the only way to go, unless you like pulling your transmission and having it rebuilt repeatedly.

My truck is a freak, I have gone high 12's with a 4.8, base STS kit 12psi (which is for sale ) Stock tranny with only a shift kit and Vette servo, Meth, a Vinvi Ultra Torque cam. and a DACCO reman TB stall. Don't know how much $$$ I have in it, I prefer not o think about it But I save a lot cuz I do EVERYTHING myself, even my custom front mount turbo I have now.

I have a 99 ECSB 4x4 5.3 Z71 LT...Stock unless you count the K&N filter in the stock air box.

I want to go 8.0's in the 1/8th (12.5's or so in the 1/4) on street tires and be reliable...This is a long term project that will require a limited budget so I'm looking to buy once and get what I need not have to upgrade later.

I'm thinking about trying to find a STS kit used (no idea what turbo I would want for good spool on the street and still make the power I need), getting a meth kit, and a converter/tranny...Then see where I am and do a cam if needed.

The thing kinda throwing a wrench in this plan is I have a bud with a LS1 with a cam and a built 4l60e for sale $5000 and I can make payments on it, question is do I need the cubes or will the 5.3 get me there without to much trouble/money.

Also Will the 4L60E out of a Camaro work in a 4x4?? It looks as if the output would unbolt and the transfer would bolt right up??

Any and all help would very appreciated, I do have a V6 Buick T-type with a AlkyControl kit on it running 7.2's in the 1/8th so I do have some experience tuning with meth.
The 5.3L combo with the cam/converter sounds like it would run pretty decent. I bet with 8-9psi it would be damn close to your goal. A built 60E will be ok as a daily driver as long as you don't beat on it too much. The thing about the 60E in a heavy truck is that no matter what it WILL fail eventually, how long it last has a lot to do with how you drive really. If you wanted to have a more reliable trans, the 4L80E might be something to look into for your goals or reliability.

What's everyone else think about this setup? I'd think VERY low 13's at the minimum(talking sea level track )

Do you want us to tell you that you can put a turbo on it and run 12's all day? Ok sure, Buy the STS kit for $4000 and go take it out to the track, spend $50 and get a boost controller and turn it up to 30 pounds. Take it to the track and tell us what you ran.

We're sitting here giving you advice and apparently it's going in one ear and out the other.
I never even told you a $ and all I hear is how I can't afford it on a budget, and you even gave me crap because I'm not in a hurry, sorry but that's kinda rude...No one even answered my tranny question, or said anything about what turbo people are running on there trucks for my goals...I'm not trying to be a dick, but the only thing you have contributed is that appartently if I don't sink 10K in my truck right now then I'm pissing in the wind and a dumbass.

He builds 9 sec. overdrive trannies for a living, just cuz he's my bud doesn't mean he's a nobody.

Dude that's cool...What turbo did you use, I know nothing about any turbos except Buick turbos, which are typically 3 bolt and even the numbers always seem to be different than other turbos.

And shoot me a PM on the STS kit.

Ok well then give us a set of guidlines to help you
for example:
how much you want to spend
what you mean by "reliable"
time period for all this
your exact goal for 1/4 mile time
If you are willing to use used parts

I already posted a bunch of stuff to get you started. Hell I posted up a bunch of stuff to get your running 12's. There is no reliable and cheap way to run a 12 second 1/4 mile fur under $15000. That's what I'm telling you.

I'm not hiding some secret "ultra charger" that allows you to hit 600 rwhp and not break transmissions.
