Default HELP Want to go 12.5's or so in a ECSB 4x4

Ok fellas I'm new here...Been doing the search thing for a couple of days here and there but I run my own business and it's hard to find time to read to much so I'm looking for some more specialized help.

I have a 99 ECSB 4x4 5.3 Z71 LT...Stock unless you count the K&N filter in the stock air box.

I want to go 8.0's in the 1/8th (12.5's or so in the 1/4) on street tires and be reliable...This is a long term project that will require a limited budget so I'm looking to buy once and get what I need not have to upgrade later.

I'm thinking about trying to find a STS kit used (no idea what turbo I would want for good spool on the street and still make the power I need), getting a meth kit, and a converter/tranny...Then see where I am and do a cam if needed.

The thing kinda throwing a wrench in this plan is I have a bud with a LS1 with a cam and a built 4l60e for sale $5000 and I can make payments on it, question is do I need the cubes or will the 5.3 get me there without to much trouble/money.

Also Will the 4L60E out of a Camaro work in a 4x4?? It looks as if the output would unbolt and the transfer would bolt right up??

Any and all help would very appreciated, I do have a V6 Buick T-type with a AlkyControl kit on it running 7.2's in the 1/8th so I do have some experience tuning with meth.

12.5's reliably in a 4x4 is tough. Hours of work and the parts in my sig for me to get there. It isn't cheap.

I would go straight for a forged stroker and a power adder or your choice. Since you know what you want out of it go straight to a 4l80e cause you'll go through a few 4l60es before you get to the 12's in that big truck. This wont happen quick on a limited budget.

+1
Speed and reliability aren't cheap but what you want can and is done. There are a few trucks, daily drivers that run 12's on this forum. A few of us, like KySilverado and myself are Z71 4wd too. Go look at the http://www.deweygibson.com/PT.NET/ftlquarter-dew.htm fastest truck list and start comparing.
good luck, enjoy!

So you want a 5500 pound 12.5 second truck that's reliable, but it can't be expensive......join the club

LOL Dang I didn't figure it would be to hard...I mean yeah it's a 5500 truck but hell LS motors are making some big power without huge investments...Don't get me wrong I expect to be spending thousands, just over time.

Mid 12's aren't possible with a built 60?? I would have thought it could have stood up to that.

How about 13.00's-12.90's?? Is this more realistic??

Thanks for the chart by the way looks very helpful.

Well the fastest 5.3L extended cab is Trever1t(he posted above) with a 12.14(or something like that). It took him: 5.3L(high output I believe), supercharger, cam, headers, tune, gears, flt level 5 tranny, sc2800(I believe), full bolt ons and I'm sure some weight reduction. He easily has $10 grand into him engine/tranny, but probably more like $15k(that's just my guess though based on his mods)

See his truck seems like it has about the same mods as I wanted to do power wise, just with the addition of headers and Nitrous, and the fact that he went supercharged instead of turbocharged which IMO is more of a preference decision at this level of the game.

So are you on a budget or not? $15,000 isn't exactly chump change.

Wow, I'm #1 That explains all the finger waggng I get on the street

Good memory RH except I had shorty's and no weight reduction other than the body appearance mods. Yes, a Yank SC2800 for converter. More $ than that.... I don't even want to add **** up
Since that 12.14 I have added 60lb injectors, a Magnavolt , long tubes and upped to a 50 shot.
