pull the intake off, leave everything that is on the intake . . . on it. Meaning unbolt the 8mm bolts that hold it down, unplug the EVAP (quick disconnect), fuel line, and the PVC lines, brake boost if you have it, pull it at the booster
The bell housing bolts are easy to get to if you're using a gear wrench, or a spark plug wrench
You can leave the motor mounts, water pump, crank pulley, and coil packs, on the engine while its getting pulled.
There are 3 ground wires on the block plus the ground strap . . . disconnect them, and take pics or mark them where they were

unbolt the A/C pump, and leave it in the engine bay also

support the trans with a floor jack, and a block of wood, or space it out with ply wood if you can
yup, this is pretty much the same procedure I followed

There is no need to slide or move the trans anywhere. Also don't touch the transfer case. Just use 2x ratchet straps to prevent the tranny from moving forward when you pull on the engine. And put a jack stand under the bellhousing as shown below.

Also, you don't need to remove the radiator. Just be careful and don't smash it with the engine.

Thanks for the info. loved reading about your build awhile back. Reconized the pics imediatly. I finally got it out today. Good and bad. Looks like I can keep the 6.0 butn I need a new piston. Beats putting a 5.3 back into it.

I dread putting the bellhousing bolts back on. The rest is relatively easy on comparison to those bolts.

When I pulled my motor my body lift saved me a ton of time the transmission bolts took me less than 30 minutes after I found them all. Whenever you go to install it back in stand in the engine bay and reach over the motor, you can get to the top 3 a lot easier than on the ground IMO.

An extension about 3' long and a wobble makes short work of the bellhousing bolts, let's you reach over the trans. I've got one that's 3/8's drive on the socket end but 1/2" drive on the other so you can use a decent impact to break them loose.
