Help pulling motor
#1
Just like it says, I need help pulling the motor. I am doing this in my driveway on gravel...and its 30. I am trying to get this done because on Tues it is supposed to be -4. I have the water pump, ac, alternator, ps pump and intake off. I disconnected the headers although I did not remove them. The starter and veter bolts are removed. I am in the process of removing the bell housing bolts however there are a few that are a bitch. I would rather not remove the headers completely if I dont have to. Any trick to this or suggestions. Do I need to support the trans or will the cross member hold it? I Have two more bolts to go on each side.
I appreciate any help and suggestions. This is the first time I have done a complete swap my self and to my surprise all of my friends are busy....until spring.

So your saying to pull the motor I have to remove the trans? Or Can i leave it in and pull the motor? I am pretty sure i can leave it. Trying to not have to do that if I dont have to.

But I could just support the trans and leave it in place and slide the motor out and up correct? I am having issues with the bell housing bolts. I cant get to two of them. My headers are obstructing me. I am trying not to remove them again because I am on the ground and its a bitch to get them back together laying on my back.

Yeah bud you can leave the trans in the truck , just put a jack or stand or blocks under the trans pan ( carefully so ya don't sent in) to help support it.
The top bellhousing bolts are a a bitch, If I remember I took the oil sending unit out to help get to them .
But like said it's just two motor mount bolts holding her in after the hoses/wiring/bellhousing bolts are out . No biggie just take your time .
Also you did pull the radiator and fans /right ?
Also just pull your headers if they are fighting you.

if you have headers take them off
take off the power steering/alternator bracket off, and flop it off to the side.
pull the intake off, leave everything that is on the intake . . . on it. Meaning unbolt the 8mm bolts that hold it down, unplug the EVAP (quick disconnect), fuel line, and the PVC lines, brake boost if you have it, pull it at the booster
The bell housing bolts are easy to get to if you're using a gear wrench, or a spark plug wrench
You can leave the motor mounts, water pump, crank pulley, and coil packs, on the engine while its getting pulled.
There are 3 ground wires on the block plus the ground strap . . . disconnect them, and take pics or mark them where they were
unbolt the A/C pump, and leave it in the engine bay also
support the trans with a floor jack, and a block of wood, or space it out with ply wood if you can
