Default Good performance oil??

Okay I forgot alot about oil being that the factory gave free oil changes for the last year. so I have a few questions I'm hoping you guys can clarify for me.

1. What is the stock recommended oil for a 2004 5.3 V8?

2. Being that I live in Florida where the temps don't go below freezing what would you recommend I go with? Keep in mind I do like to drag race every once in awhile so performance is a must.

3. What is your favorite brand & why?

Thanks.

I just switched to Castrol Syntec 10W 30 here last weekend. Can't really notice a difference yet, but it looks to be good oil. I'm in South Ga. so I know what you mean about the not ever getting below freezing. That's why I went with 10W 30, which is all I've ever run in my truck, instead of 5W 30. It seems to be a little easier to find to me and is good to fairly cold temperatures so it should be fine.

thats what I forgot to ask. what does the first and second number stand for? (5w30)

5w thicker or thinner than 10w?

Is thinner better for performance?

the w stands for the weight of the oil... 5w would be thinner than a 10w oil.

however, Not quite sure which weight oil would be better for perfomance.

people usually use the thinner oil in hotter climates. (or is the other way around)

well anyway, but its not that big of a difference.

5w30 (multi-viscosity), the 5 is how the oil acts when it's cold and the 30 is how the oil acts when it's hot.

I use Castrol GTX 10w40, I'll probably go back to using 10w30 though. I like it because it's a good cheap oil, and if changed about every 3000 miles the motor will last forever.

AMSOIL synthetic in all our vehicles, read the test results by API(AMERICAN PETROLEUM INSTITUTE) you will find that AMSOIL out performs even MOBIL 1 products. I like the fact that AMSOIL makes trans fluid and diff oil in synthetic. Protect your investment, spend a few more $ you won't be sorry
