getting a drain on my batt
#1
tell me some places to look for possible culprits to a power source draining my battery. for the past few months i have noticed that if i don't drive my truck for a few days, the battery is almost dead. i have had to jump it off several times.
i do have a small amp but it has been in the truck since day one and never caused any problems before. along with that, i have sirius sat radio and i have the box that deciphers what the ant brings in. it needs power. but again, been in the truck for a long time and never a problem.
i thought the little red box was supposed to keep us from draining the bat. it has worked for me before when i left the hood up and the light was on.

im in the same boat. on another forum, someone told me it had somrthing to do with my optima yellow top. something about a dry cell battery? and they recommended an aftermarket gel battery like a Stinger Audio battery.
But i didnt research too much more into it bc i fried my 5.3....and its just sittin in my driveway awaiting the 6.0

They have a dealer update for battery rundown but if you batt is a couple years old just replace it. As far as optima batt causing problems they probably just trying to sell you something. I have had good success with the napa gel batterys just like optima and I believe made by same company just a different label with a longer warranty.

If you put an ammeter in series with the negative battery cable, you shouldn't see more than a 50 milliamp draw. (with some aftermarket components you may see 55 or so) If you have an excessive draw, you can start pulling fuses one at a time until the draw goes down to normal...when it does you have found the circuit that's causing the drain. Then it's just a matter of disconnecting components on that circuit until you find the culprit.
