On mobile so searching is a little hard. But tore down a Gen 4 motor and was told it was a 5.3.

The motor had never been out of the truck. But when I took the heads off I noticed it has flat top pistons. Then when got down to the crank it showed numbers matched as a 5.3 crank. So just wondering why a 5.3 would come with flat top pistons?

Any insight is it a common thing or not. I thought only 4.8s came with flat top.

oh alright thanks for that, i had only messed with gen 3's before and just kinda expected the pistons to be the same in gen3 and gen4.

 

nope gen 4 have flat tops to use the 243s or 799s without being too low on CR
