Gear and Posi install pricing
#1
I got a quote from a very reputable shop for a gear swap and posi install, as follows:
GM OEM 4.10 Gears (recommended quietest, Precisions available): $255
Auburn Posi (recommended, though Eaton posi available same $): $375
Bearings and Seals: $110
80/90 Weight Gear Oil and Additive: $15.00
Labor: $360
Total with tax: $1175
Comes with a 12 month/12,000 mile warranty.
How does that sound?
The only question I have is posi units....the shop owner said the Eaton is a good unit, on par with the Auburn, but they put Auburns in all their own vehicles (and recommend them as well) because they believe the design (cone clutch) to be superior to the Eaton (flat clutch). Anyone have input on this?

Very expensive if you ask me and as far as Auburn being superior compared to Eaton, he probably has a bigger profit margin on Auburn. My Auburn became a one pegger after 10 months of use and then after several it decided work again.

You should get ahold of a member named James B. Hes really knows his **** when it comes to this stuff and as far as ive seen he always recomends the eaton.
As far as the install that looks about right
This is about the prices ive seen going for everything:
Gears ~150-200 (OEM gears are always more $ )
Eaton ~350-400 (Aubrun should be a little less than Eaton)
Rebuild kit ~100
Install ~300
------------------
~900 to 1100 (including oil etc)
You might want to look up a guy on ebay named 589gear that Chingon bought his setup from.
He sells the whole kit, posi/gears/install kit for about 600 shipped.

to what Mac said. The package deal was $600 to my door and I went to a place recommended by many f-bod guys called Hooper's Rear End in Sun Valley. They did the install for $200 which made my posi and gear total at $800.*Edit* Now that I think about it, James B. recommended Drivetrain Direct in Corona (I think that's the name) and they actually would've done the whole deal for $750 had it not been for them requiring I buy the parts from them. I wish I would've called them first before ordering the package on ebay...but it's only $50

One downside to the Auburn, and what made me go for the Eaton is that the clutch packs on the Eaton can be rebuilt/replaced, but the Auburn you can't do that, have to chuck the whole thing and get another.
