Gear install kits
#1
Do you really need one, because if your just swiching out the gears why would I need all of the other stuff that comes in an install kit? Just wondering.
What comes with the install kits, bearings, gaskets, etc....????????

You do need an install kit when you are swaping gears. Normally an install kit comes with the following: pinion bearings, carrier bearings, pinion nut, pinion shims, pinion seal, carrier shims, ring gear bolts, crush sleeve, gaskets & checking compound. Since you are using the same carrier you will not need any carrier bearings.

Its a good idea on any gear swap to go ahead and rebuild the rear (especially on high mileage rears), bearings and all. About the only thing I reuse during a gear swap is some of the shims, though you still need extra shims to set backlash, etc. New bearings are cheap insurance for an expensive rear.
