Everyone here needs to know that GM trust 1 oil and thats Mobil 1! 300k on my bottom end, torn down with the bearings looking like a 100k and literally no sludge anywhere.

While I do not disagree with this here is some other information thats food for thought. GM also runs mild cams and low spring pressures, I prefer an oil with 1000-1400 ppm zinc and phosphorus when an engine has a larger cam and heavier springs ( not 918 beehives) I mean duals with over 140/400 pressures. Granted this isn't a flat tappet but I feel it helps. All off the shelf oils have zinc and phosphorus levels below 500 due to regulations. Just another perspective.

I'm pretty sure there are a couple of shelf oils that have around 1200+ ppm of zinc and phosphorus. First that comes to mind is Rotella T6.

Question on this - could a single lifter failing cause the motor to run lean to the extent of wasting the valve seals? MyMy exhaust valve looked tortured during my latest teardown and I'm pretty sure my tuner didn't lean her out. Just wondering...

Maybe in 15/40 or 15/50

The EPA has cracked down on it being used is normal wieght car oils, some diesel oil still has a bit more.

Mobil also has some racing oils with higher ZDDP, but I am not a huge fan.

I used to run brad Penn but seen a independent test in almost every oil and Mobil 1 advanced synthetic came in something like 5th and didn't break down nearly as fast as alot of others.
Brad Penn came in something like the 30s.
It was a very very long and interesting read.

What have you figured out on this?

For the record, trans fluid and Marvel Mystery oil make great flush/cleaning products. With the way these LS engines consume oil inherently I've always topped my oil off with trans fluid or Marvel (whichever I had on hand at the time) and ran it for a week or so before changing oil. Since doing that, never a lifter, rocker, bearing etc issue yet. And this has been on two engines with AFM and one that also has VVT. My 4.3 and my 6.2 both get Rotella and topped off with one of the above between changes. I also use high capacity Wix filters on everything I own. Good luck with it. I hate to hear there may be issues with this thing.
