Default Fuel Milage 04/05 6.0 1500HD?

What do you guys get for fuel mileage? My dad is debating weather or not to purchase a 6.0 in a new 1500HD or 2500HD. What would be the difference in the two? He does more highway miles then anything and usually unloaded. He likes his 5.3 and the fuel mileage it gets. Please let me know how you do on fuel if you own a 04/05. The only reason I list these years are that apparentlely there is a difference in fuel economy after 03. Let me know what you think. Also with 3.73 gears.

Thanks for your help.

Default fuel mileage

hi zek,i used to own an 03 1500 hdlt ccsb, traded it in for an 04 ecsb because the milage was so bad! also had an 00 ecsb that was ok also. the crew cabs are heavy, around 6800 lbs,2500 is most likely a little more. when i ordered the 1500 i really wanted a 2500,at the time you could not get 3.73, so ordered the 1500.
check out pic,i also had a few mods too,headers,maf sen,hpp111,drop in kn.i t wouldn't get too much more than 11-15 mpg.o4 is getting 13-17.3. hope this helps,glenn.

I have an 03 2500hd with a 6.0l. Minor mods exhaust, programer, intake. Its got 33" tall tires on it. I have noticed a big difference in mileage. At 65 mph its getting 14.5-14.7 at 85 it gets 10.5! Oh ya ecsb

Zek,
If you don't need a full blown 3/4 ton truck, why not check out the
HO C1500.
You get the 6.0 in a 2wd 1/2 truck..and save money up front to boot.
You don't use as much power turning all the extra heavy componets like you do
in a 3/4 ton..It's a ext cab..don't know if you wanted a ext. cab or crew..
I got a 2wd C1500 reg cab with a 6.0..4.10 gears..getting.17-18 mpg..

Any way..here's a sticker on one we got on the lot, so you can compare..

I don't have a HD, or LQ4 6.0... but I do have a '04, 6.0, in a 1500.

I got a high of 22mpg... and was averaging low to mid 19's before I put a cam in, with the rest of these mods.

Now I see high 19's as a best. Around town averages are 17's.

Wow I never thought there would be an 8 mph difference between a 3/4 4x4 and a 1/2 ton 2 wheel drive.

Thanks guys for your replys. He is interested in a 4x4 because of our mountain travels and getting stuck. Would it be much worse on gas? What is the HO 1500 or do you mean HD? Also does this include the 4l80E tranny? Thanks for your help keep it coming.

My 03 1500HD does not get very good gas mileage. Course. I don't think people really buy an HD for the gas mileage, unless its a Duramax.

I love my 6.0, 4l80e, NVG246 TC, AAM 925 front diff, AAM 950 rear diff, all the good stuff!

The 2500 HD will definately suck more gas with its weight, but if your in the field for a gas heavy duty be prepared to pay at the pump whether its a 1500HD or a 2500HD, go with a D max if your looking for power and fuel economy and if you don't wanna get around 8 mpg don't buy the 8.1
