Default Fuel guage

ok, last night i am sitting in my truck(while it is running, because it's so freaking muggy here in houston) eating dinner before i go into work. not really paying attention to my instrument cluster, i notice a yellow light come on. look up and my low fuel light is on. look at my guage and it's burried on empty. now i know its not empty because i just filled it up yesterday morning. had 3/4's of a tank left. so first thing that pops into my mind is i hit something and put a hole in the tank, that turns out not to be true.so i start the truck back up and the guage goes back to 3/4's of a tank, and i think wtf. then about a minute later it does it again. now i'm pissed and i can do anything about because i have to go into work. so after work i get in it, start it up and sit there for a minute. nothing happens. not even on the way home. so wtf'n problem with the truck. this has got me baffled. the only thing i can think of is the sending unit is going. anybody have any imput?
sorry so long i just got to typing and, dammit i gotta stop typing.
ok sorry im gonna stop now, really i am. honestly.
im serious. im stopping
(is there i a place you can go to for typing annonimous)

Heh. I have that too.
I'm not sure, but I think the problem is with the fuel sending unit.
Anyone have a part # and/or price?
I have just learned to deal with it. I go by mileage instead of the gas gauge.

well last night the damn thing did the same thing, so i reved the motor to about 2400 rpms, and it shot back up. i let off the gas and let it idle. A few seconds went by then the thing started jumping around like a dying fish 1/2 a tank, 3/4 of a tank and then wham it sits on empty. the funny thing is, it only does it while im at idle. does just fine while im driving.
what gives?

It seems to me to be an epidemic, mine started it and the wifes new tahoe did it 2 times recently. The local dealers says "ah we have seen only a couple over the past years" that is BS,it may get to were GM may pay for it even after the warrantys up,should be a TSB,here is the PN i was given 25314460
About $70-$80 range for the sender

I was told it was a module, yet you had to drop the tank..... When I worked at the dealership we had several trucks come in, I helped drop the tank on one excab, (one of their used trucks) and it was doing the empty/full thing, and the mechanic said it was the module, which was about 70-80 bucks... Should have thought to get the part when I worked there, as mine is doing it.....
