Since I am using the 01 harness, what about the 58x to 24x reluctor wheels stuff and all that jazz.

Well since your going for a daily driver /tow performance build i would get the 6.0, it already has an advantage of TQ you need for your heavy vehicle.
But for an all out performance build the alum 5.3 would be baddass! But like said youve got a big vehicle and more cubes will be friendlier to it.
Lingenfelter i believe has the reluctor conversion box to do what you need if you go that route.

My wife has a pretty nice 99 suburban that might get a 5.3L if this works out like planned.

The 80e has a tall first gear. Typically, less horsepower get to the ground through an 80e also. With a 5.3 in front of it, your heavy burban won't have much of a low end pull.
The L33 is a good engine. $600 is a good deal for one. The lighter block really isn't going to be that big of a gain for you. The 799s and the 87mm intake can easily be swapped to the 6.0, while its on an engine stand. Price of used 799s are falling a lot. I've seen them go for $250, sometimes less. I see 87mm/90mm complete intakes go for a few hundred also.
Even with the 317s and 78mm intake, the 6.0 still puts down more low end.
Not 100%, but im not sure you can run a DoD cam with non-DoD lifters. Can't remember when I helped a friend do a cam/verter swap on a DoD equipped truck. I know you want to go with a non-DoD valley tray and oil pump.
Also not sure if a fwd drive engine is plug and play with a rwd transmission.
The 6.0 is just a better option for such a heavy vehicle that tows. $1000 from a trusted source is a fairly good deal.
IMO, go with the 6.0. Or keep the 60e with the 5.3
maybe you should get out more

I agree with zero2sixT here. Its would be overkill with that engine. I feel like it would chew up way too much power off the line. I'll never say the 80e is a waste of time, but without some serious mods a 5.3 just can't stress a tranny the same way a 6.0 can. IF reliability and strength are your main concerns then go with the 80e all day regardless of which engine you end up with.

Heavy truck pulling heavy trailers = strength concerns.
Unless the guy wants to do a straight trade out for my labor, I am just going to run my 5.3L and 4L60E I have now.
