4.8 with the limited mods he is willing to do will be lucky to run the same time as his truck would have with a stock 5.3.

ur full of ****. he said "4.8"...not "4.3". ur saying a 4.8 with simple boltons cant beat a 5.3? comon man. put just a hpp3 on the 4.8 and its over.
yea your right, that comment may have been a little off. i am a BIG fan of more displacement, when it comes as cheap as $1500 for a 6.0.

alright now i have a 2001 scsb 4.8 and i only have a drop in air filter (k&n) and well a single inlet/dual outlet muffler and i ran a 15.2 and now i have a HPP3 and i havent had a chance to take it back to the track...i think it will be atleast 14.9....but neways to settle the whole 5.3 vs. 4.8.... i beat my cousins 2001 z71 w/5.3 and then i only had the muffler and he had a k&n drop in and exhaust...i have beat old style 350s and well i have no push over 4.8 ..... i think i have a freak 4.8 lol

RacerBill - I think you just came up with the perfect name for Hyperlite.

"Freak4.8"

If you've been around here for a while you'll know why I say that.

I still like the engine swap idea rather than doing too much to the 4.8L you have.

If you can find a 6.0L for less than $1500 and throw heads/cam on it for ~$2000 you could have a mid to high 3XXrwhp truck for less than $4000. Of course it would be good to get a set of headers if you went with heads and cam so figure a little more for those.

does anyone know the MPG difference between 4.8L, 4.8L supercharged, and a stock 6.0?

tokez- the stock 4.8/5.3 will get somewhere around 15/16. the s/ced 4.8 and the 6.0 will both be around 11/12. (pending that u have all the other boltons along with it)

racerbill- there has been alot of ******* on 4.8s on this forum. i see why they do it, i dont really blame them. i see how it automatically clicks in thier head that it is sooo much slower. truth is, most of those guys have never even driven a 4.8, let alone race one. but sooner or later they find out themselves, thats the beuty of it

Maybe the 6.0L will get that, but a supercharged 4.8 will not. My 5.3 with a whipple, headers exhaust and a Vig 3200 still gets 15 in the city and 19 on the hwy.

that is the one virtue of a 4.8/5.3, better miliage. my 5.3 didn't change miliage at all when i bolted the whipple on, may have even gone up a hair when towing. drop in the 6.0 and bam, lost at least 5mpg, they are pigs.

still vote for the 6.0, wasn't jason somethingor other leting his wife drive a tahoe with a 6.0 and a few bolt on's and running mid 13's? this was awhile ago so if anyone remembers his exact set up maybe you could share.

My 5.3 averages 18mpg but, if I drove it decent it'll get over 20. My Dad's 6.0L got 16-17 a while back but, now for some reason can't get over 14.

Well right now i am getting bout 15 mpg ******* on it the whole tank and i am getting like 17-18 driving normal and 20+ highway....so i dunno... i dont wanna lose all of my gas mileage but also i know i have to forfeit some of my mpg for some power. so i think i will put my money into a sound system (not too much for weight purposes), body restyling (bed cover, painted front valance, street glows, etc.), and my free mods and things i can build myself to improve the 4.8 for now(ram air and cold air pipe). 50,000 mi. till swap...... long waiting period .... plenty of time to make up for lost funding....
