I have been noticing a lot of posts about electric fans and I have wondered what all the fuss was about. I bought my truck back in the fall when it was cool and all my dyno/track time has been in cool weather. I pulled the stock fan at the track one night on test and tune night and it made absolutely NO difference in performance. Well, now that it is 90+ degrees around here I can't wait to get some e-fans!! My truck has the heavy towing pkg so I guess I got a monster fan clutch-all I know is all I hear now is Whirrrrrr whirrrrr whirrrrrr it is like the clutch hardly ever disengages! I have a temp sensor that I used to have on my stang that screws into a water passage and tuirns the fan on at like 180 and off at 170 I think. I am gonna try and use that setup. The whirring will cease as soon as I find the time!!! Down with the whirrring!!!

god i hate the whirrrrr,
i wanted to keep my truck around 180deg and the whirrrr fan doesn't really blow enuff around town so i played with the spring on the front of the clutch to see if i could get it to kick in a little sooner. well that was a silly thing to try, now i have whirrrrr whirrrr all the time!! it never stops, even when i rev the **** out of it it just whirrrs really loud, i haven't beat my truck since it just sounds like it is going to blow.
well tonight i tossed in a huge 6.0 radiator, it is 6" wider than the 5.3 unit, i have an electric fan coming soon so i decided just not to put my fan or shoud back on, ohhh what peace! no whirrrr at all, it is whole new truck, feels much faster and smoother. the truck never even got hot(didn't try the air), i drove around town for 1/2 hour at least and it is 90deg here.
the good life!! no whirrrrrr, i hope the electric isn't too loud

I finally got around to getting the E-fans. Bought some off a 97 (lt1) camaro. So far so good-it has been in the low 90's around here but I haven't towed anything yet-maybe I'll take my car to the track thurs and see how it tows then. I hooked them up with a relay kit that I bought for the stang a few years ago-It comes on at like 180 and off at 170. It also runs anytime the A/c is on. One other thing I did is hook up a mini LED bulb in the cab to give me an indicator that the fans are on. The whirr is gone and so far I am <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Graygmc-I just spliced into the main power wire going directly to the fan motor-if that wire has power on it the fans should be on unless the motors go out. Then just ground the other side of the LED. It is just hanging right now, but as soon as I get time I plan on mounting it in the driver side A/C vent where it is visible to the driver but not sticking out like a sore thumb.
