Default Exhaust Works (5.3)

Hey, I was just on my 5.3 Stock vortec 2002. I was just wondering about my manifolds and what I can do them to gain HP... and I read about porting, but can anyone explain that to me.. and can I port my stock setup, what ever it is I have.

I think you mean porting the heads. I'm not well versed in that department so I'll let someone with more knowledge tackle that one. As for your exhaust manifolds, there isn't much of anything you can do to them to yield more power. That's why you get rid of them and install headers in thier place.

You can have them ported. For the money you might as well get a set of headers. I race dirt track and i know some of the classes you have to have stock manifolds. Alot of those guys get them acid dipped. This removes some of the burrs that slow air flow. You can measure the ports and see if they are larger than the head ports. If they are smaller, you can grind the edges off so that the air flowing out doesnt have something to catch on from the get go.

Yes you can get your stock exaust manifolds acid dipped (like Red2k said), ported, or extrude honed. Honeing will give the internal view a look similar to a set of aftermarket shortie headers while maintaingin the stock outer appearance. The only reason I can see anyone doing this is if you are in a class where you have to run stock manifolds (cant tell a difference with out x-ray vision). For the price, just go and get you as set of aftermarket headers.
