Default Engine Swap....ls1/6.0

I was wondering how much is involved in putting a ls1 or 6.0 into my 97 chevy. I know that it wont be a direct swap but I would like for someone to give me an idea on how difficult it is. Obviously the computer and everything would have to change...Im just wondering if it will bolt up fairly easily. I really dont want to get a new truck right now since I just got out of college and I will be going back to school next year. I dont want anything too radical, just a mild ls1/6.0 with a cam. I would imagine that I would need a new tranny also, im not sure if my 4l60 or whatever is exactly the same...Any input is appreciated.

Haha, I did get a 16.2 @ 82 out of it with a flowmaster a few months earlier. I then added a superchips tune and went back to the track with my brother and some friends...Accidentally went through the water box and spun and i just decided not to let off and spun my 1 wheel through the 1/8..ran a 18.46 @82 on that run and parked it for the rest of the night. Still trapped 82 though!

If you have the 4.3 and are going to an lS1 the transmission wont work.

I have the 350 vortec in it now, I would upgrade it but i dont like the fueling system and its not as easily programmable as the gen IIIs.

no no no, my friend has done that swap and i have the truck outside we're gonna go weld the exhaust on tomorrow. A mechanic friend of mine bolted the engine and trans, i dont know how the hell he bolted the engine but he modified the stock 305 motor mounts, he did not use aftermarket motor mounts. and allen did the wiring and he also tuned it, and wow that is one pretty damn fast truck. the truck is a 97 GMC RCSB had 305 with auto tranny and 1 wheel peel, now it has an 02 LS1 auto, plus auburn lsd (no more 1 wheel peel), and a K&N 77 series intake for 5.3's, and tomorrow we're gonna go put a stock 04 escalade y pipe and muffler on the reason he is not putting aftermarket exhaust on is because he doesnt like it loud!
