ready for custom tune but...

Would like to know this:
I picked up an 02 silvy pcm today, and would like to use it in my 99. Now, as the place I bought it from does not know exactly the vehicle it came off of, just that its the right part number computer, will I have to have a mail order tune done first, then start tuning on my own with another program, or is it possible to somehow make the computer compatible with my truck so I dont have to shell out the extra money for a mail tune?
Also, any one know if that wait4me performance tune guy can do a tune for an 02 pcm in a 99 truck? Otherwise, I pretty much dead set on going through nelson.

once you pay nelson, the rest is of the times you need him are free. If you don't have software yet it's just best to have Nelson mail order your tune....especially since you plan to do nelson or wait4me anyway.
As far as plug and play with the 02pcm...you don't even know what vehicle it came out of? 1500? 2500? HD? regular? You could of bought the pcm from Nelson I believe. I say since there isn't a "for sure" factor...call the pcm mail order guy of your choice (cough Nelsonperformance...cough cough) and get their opinion...no need in frying the new pcm or even worse...both. Everybody knows the new new pcm and tune is definitely worth the excitement and waiting will just about kill ya...but rushing things is even worse.
disclaimer: Allen and jed both are great guys and seemingly great mail order tuners. It is jed right. I always forget his name.

Well, I told the guy I needed a pcm for an 02 silverado and he didnt ask me any other questions. This was at our local salvage yard here in omaha. Maybe I will give them a call and find out what exactly it came out of so I know. But the part numbers are the same for those computers if it is a 15, 2500, etc, or even from the v8 vans to the trucks, so if they are going to re flash it anyways, wouldnt they just put in a tune for an 02 truck anyways?

well, i ran the vin they gave me from the truck, and here is what Carfax has given me -
2001 chevy ext cab c2500hd w/6.0
So an '01 2wd 2500 with the 6.0.
Will this still work I wonder?
If only i could have gotten ahold of Nelson sooner, but he is on vacation right now, wont be back till Tues.

no it will not work. that pcm is for a 6.0 with a 4l80e tranny in it. you will need to get a tune or another pcm. remember that you get what you pay for. dont skimp on a tune. it is whats going to wake up the truck the most.nelson is my pick and he is a sponser.
